Bank Passbook with Duly Attested Photograph
It is the first page of your bank passbook, with your photo signed and stamped by the bank. Here is how to get one and how to turn it into a file a form will accept.
Getting the photo attested at your branch
- Take the passbook and a photoA recent passport size photo, plus the passbook of an account in your own name.
- Ask the branch to attest itRequest that they affix the photo on the first page and attest it. Some branches ask for a one-line letter.
- Check the attestationThe officer’s signature should run across the photo, with the branch stamp, name and date clearly visible.
- Scan or photograph the pageFlat, in daylight, with the whole page visible, then prepare it below.
Only the bank can attest this photo. The tool below helps you add your own signature to the copy when a form asks for self attested ID proofs. It does not add or imitate any bank stamp or signature.
Prepare the scan for upload
Choose the photo of your passbook page. If the form wants a self attested copy, tap the button to add “Self Attested”, your signature and the date in a blank corner. Then download a JPG under 200 KB.
What the bank should have written
- The officer’s signature, crossing the edge of your photo.
- The branch round stamp or seal, partly on the photo.
- Your name and account number on the same page.
- Often the officer’s name or employee code and the date.
If any of this is missing, the copy may be rejected at verification. Ask the branch to complete it before you scan.
Uploading other ID proofs too? Use the self attested photocopy for cards or the Aadhaar card front and back merge tool to put both sides of Aadhaar on one page.
Questions
Who attests the photo in a bank passbook?
Your bank. An officer at your home branch signs across your photo in the passbook and puts the branch stamp on it. You cannot attest it yourself, and no website can do it for you.
My passbook has no photo. What do I do?
Take a recent passport size photo and the passbook to your branch and ask them to affix and attest it. Many banks do this the same day; some ask for a short written request.
Is a bank statement with photo the same thing?
Usually not. Forms that list “bank passbook with duly attested photograph” mean the physical passbook page. Check the list of accepted ID proofs if you only have an e-statement.
Where is this accepted as ID proof?
Many recruitment boards, exam centres and government schemes list it as one of the acceptable photo ID proofs, along with Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID and passport. Always check your own notice.
Do I need to self attest the scanned passbook?
If the form asks for self attested copies of ID proofs, yes. Sign the copy in a blank area, not over the bank’s stamp or the officer’s signature.
