Questions

Will the photo look blurry at 20 KB?

At 240 × 320 px, 20 KB is enough for a clear face if the photo is well lit. Blurriness usually comes from a dark or shaky original, not from the compression.

How do I get a plain background?

Stand about a metre in front of a white or light wall in daylight, facing the window. Avoid patterned curtains and doors behind you.

What does 200 DPI mean for a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo?

DPI tells a printer how large to print the pixels. 276 × 354 px at 200 DPI prints at exactly 3.5 × 4.5 cm. The value is written into the file so forms that check DPI accept it.

Can I crop the photo?

The photo is cropped to the shape of the size you pick, centred on the middle. Use the zoom slider to bring your face closer.
